The blue-colored image of hanbok, created by fashion designer Lee Jin-hee, was projected onto the majestic statue on June 7. The event was part of events to celebrate the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1959.
"The vivid color of blue is one of five directional colors, called "Obangsaek" and symbolizes the birth of spring and life," Lee said. "I hope this further strengthens the friendly ties between Korea and Brazil."
Obangsaek, consisting of white, black, blue, red and yellow, is based on a traditional philosophy representing the five directions – north, south, east, west and center.
