The statement was made on Wednesday during an inquiry on foreign interference, two days after Canadian officials alleged that India was involved in homicides, extortions, and other violent acts aimed at Indian dissidents within Canada.
Trudeau mentioned there are "ever clearer indications" that India violated Canada's sovereignty by targeting Sikh dissidents. He described India’s actions as a "horrific mistake."
Canada's foreign ministry recently expelled six Indian diplomats and consular staff as part of the investigation into the killing.
In response, India expelled six Canadian diplomats, including a chargé d'affaires, citing security concerns.
The diplomatic tensions began in September 2023, when Trudeau claimed that an Indian government agent was involved in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh leader and Canadian citizen.
