Amid a protracted slump in the country's construction industry, domestic orders won by South Korean construction companies plunged 28.6 percent in the first half of this year from the same period last year, data said Tuesday.

Construction firms received domestic orders worth 39.15 trillion won (US$35.12 billion) in the first six months of 2013, according to the data released by the Construction Association of Korea.

In June, domestic orders won by the construction companies reached 8.82 trillion won, down 32.8 percent from a year earlier.

Builders saw their domestic orders drop in June for the 11th straight month, the association said.
