South Koreans' average weekly working hours fell to an all-time low last year due to the expansion of five-day workweek implemented under new labor rules and protracted economic slump, a government report said on March 13.
Working hours at businesses with five employees or more averaged 41.4 per week. The comparable figure stood at 41.9 in 2011, 42.5 in 2009, 43.4 in 2007, 44.9 in 2005 and 47.6 in 1999, according to Statistics Korea.
Working days also decreased to an average of 21.3 each month, a reduction of 3.2 days from 1999, the report said.
