YG Entertainment apologized Thursday for a marijuana scandal involving BIGBANG member TOP who was in serious condition after overdosing sedatives.

"We sincerely apologize to all fans who were disappointed by a recent scandal involving TOP," YG said in a statement. TOP is still under treatment in an intensive care unit since he was found unconscious in the living quarter of conscripted policemen in Seoul on Tuesday, it said.

YG said it would accept any criticism with a grave heart. "We will do our best to prevent any similar kind of problem in the future. We are so sorry for making fans worry."

The 29-year-old, who has been serving his mandatory military service as a conscripted policeman since February, was confined to his barrack after being charged Monday with smoking marijuana at his home with a singer-trainee identified by her surname Han in October last year.

The singer was found unconscious by his colleagues Tuesday. Doctors said Wednesday that his condition was "very serious".

TOP initially argued that he only smoked electronic cigarettes but came out positive in a test for drug residues in hair. He was the second BIGBANG member who has been charged with smoking marijuana. G-DRAGON was investigated by prosecutors on similar charges in 2011. Smoking or consuming marijuana is illegal in South Korea and violators could be sentenced to less than five years in prison.
