An American tourist, Bakari Henderson, was beaten to death while enjoying his time on Zakynthos Island in Greece. Henderson was confronted by a bouncer at a bar after taking a selfie with a waitress. Another bar employee partook in the fight. The relationship between the waitress and the bouncer who began the fight are unknown at this time.
The other customers chimed into the fight and about 15 men chased Henderson outside of the bar and beat him to death. They left him on the ground.
Henderson was on the Greek island for a photo shoot with his friends for a clothing line that he was about to launch.
Henderson's friends were unharmed as they did not partake in the fight. They tried to revive him and performed CPR to no avail. They then rushed him to a nearby hospital and Henderson was pronounced dead.
The 22-year-old is a recent graduate who studied in Finance and Entrepreneurship at the Eller College of Management that is part of the University of Arizona on a full academic scholarship.
According to his friends and family, Henderson was not an aggressive type of person who starts a fight.
Two of the bar employee, 32-year-old Serbian British bouncer and 34-year-old Greek bartender, were arrested immediately. Six other people, all Serbians, who partook in beating Henderson were arrested later. The ninth suspect who started the fight was arrested on Tuesday.
The local authorities are still in the process of monitoring the surveillance videos to identify the rest of the people who were part of the beating.
Henderson's friends created GoFundMe page to raise enough money to transport Henderson's body back home to the United States and his funeral.
