SEOUL, June 26 (AJU PRESS) - A memorial ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the death of independence fighter Kim Koo was held in Seoul on Wednesday.

Organized by the Association of Commemorative Services for Patriot Kim Koo, the ceremony honored Kim, who devoted his life to Korea's independence during the Japanese colonial period.

The event was attended by approximately 300 people including Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kang Jung-ai, descendants of independence fighters, and other activists.

Born in 1876 in Haeju, Hwanghae Province, Kim, also known by his pen name Baekbeom, played a pivotal role in Korea's struggle for independence against Japanese rule.

Kim went to Shanghai in 1919 to establish Korea's provisional government, which coordinated diplomatic and military campaigns to fight Japanese colonial rule over the Korean Peninsula from 1910 until 1945.

Kim spent most of his life in exile, surviving numerous assassination attempts by the Japanese before being assassinated in 1949. In recognition for his lifelong dedication, he was posthumously decorated in 1962.
