SEOUL, October 29 (AJP) - It is an old custom in South Korea for elderly politicians and scholars to be consulted for their wisdom whenever the country faces a crisis.

"Through our combined knowledge and expertise across diverse areas, we can provide a clearer vision and guidance for the country's future," said Oh Myung, the chair of the Korea National Council of Senior Leaders in an interview with Aju Business daily last Friday.

Currently led by Oh, the council is a gathering of senior advisors and mentors from various fields who offer their in-depth insights to guide the country.

"The council can serve as a reliable source of wisdom for the country, especially during these uncertain times," he stressed.

To achieve such goals and expand its scope of roles in celebration of its 33rd anniversary at the end of this month, the council is set to establish a think tank to formulate strategies for the country's development.

Oh further explained that the think tank would help tackle both opportunities and challenges posed by the revolutionary era of artificial intelligence, which he sees as crucial for shaping the future.

Addressing the social and economic impacts of the country's aging population is another key focus of the council's mission. In particular, he stressed that reform in labor and healthcare systems is especially critical in responding to these demographic changes.

"We aim to become a proactive force for future changes," he said.

Oh was the country's 24th prime minister and the minister of Science and ICT from 2004 to 2006.
