"AJP should cover more than just brief news updates or snippets," he said, welcoming the official launch of the Asian news hub this week. "Its true value lies in offering in-depth analysis of the emerging region's current issues, key policies, and other events from alternative perspectives, while offering fresh insights," he said.
Having served four years at the Chilean mission in Seoul, Pavez has played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Regarding South Korean news stories primarily covered by mainstream media outlets, he pointed out that they are heavily focused on either geopolitical tensions or the popularity of its pop culture, expressing concerns about their uniform or monolithic views.
"Topics like reginal disparity, aging population, and youth unemployment, for example, could offer better understanding of this country," he argued, stressing the importance of diversified news coverage.
"I'm eager to see more coverage of independent films, alternative music and other unique and unconventional news stories that go beyond popular trends," he elaborated.
Based in Seoul, AJP, set for its official launch on Tuesday, is dedicated to delivering Asia's voice to readers worldwide. It aims to keep readers informed with accurate and unbiased news stories, providing comprehensive coverage of current events and phenomena along with in-depth analysis, in partnership with major news organizations across Asia, a region comprising some 49 countries.
