The Korean food maker announced on Monday its plans to establish its production subsidiary and first overseas plant in China.
The Chinese subsidiary will be set up through its Singaporean branch, Samyang Singapore Pte. Ltd. Samyang Foods disclosed an investment plan of about 64.7 billion won (US$45 million) for the Singaporean entity to support the establishment of the Chinese unit.
The Korean firm has not provided further details on the plans for the Chinese subsidiary, noting that updates will be provided at a later date.
China is Samyang Foods' largest market, accounting for 25 percent of its exports. Currently, the products exported to China are primarily produced at the plant in the southern Korean city of Miryang.
Also known as "fire noodles," Buldak has gained popularity for its intense spiciness, fueled by users sharing videos of their fiery eating challenges on social media. Over 100,000 people across Asia, including China, have uploaded challenge videos using the hashtag "#BornTobeSpicy."
The company's export sales totaled $7 billion between July last year and June this year.
