SEOUL, January 8 (AJP) - Genesis, the luxury arm of Hyundai Motor Group, bucked a broader market downturn with robust sales growth in both its domestic and U.S. markets in 2024.

The company sold 130,674 vehicles in South Korea, a 3.2 percent increase from 2023, according to data released by Hyundai Motor Group on Tuesday. This marks the second-best annual performance for Genesis, trailing only the record 138,757 units sold in 2021.

This performance stands in stark contrast to Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, which experienced sales declines of 9.6 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively, in Korea.

Genesis also outperformed its German luxury rivals in the Korean market. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi reported sales drops of 4.7 percent, 13.4 percent, and 47.9 percent, respectively, in Korea.

In the United States, Genesis recorded its best-ever annual sales, reaching 75,003 units, an 8.4 percent increase from the previous year. This represents a more than tenfold growth since its U.S. debut in 2016, when it sold 6,948 units.

Global sales for the year are expected to reach around 230,000 units.

This year, the company will launch its “Magma” series, which will include high-performance variants of existing models.

Genesis will also introduce hybrid models from 2026, including full hybrids and extended-range electric vehicles, particularly in SUV models like the GV70 and GV80 for overseas markets.
