The game publisher said it detected unusual activity on its systems at 10:44 p.m. last Saturday, prompting it to block the unauthorized access and launch an internal probe, which found that an outside attacker had breached the system.
After immediately blocking the access and checking the affected systems, the company has been working with an outside cybersecurity firm to find out how the attacker gained access and whether other systems were affected.
The affected services are "Partners," a platform used to create promotional content for games, and "RINK," which allows users to remotely control PC games using smartphones.
But it said there is currently no indication that highly sensitive personal information such as users' names, contact information, addresses, payment details or passwords was exposed.
Kakao Games said it has notified affected users by e-mail and set up a webpage where they can check whether their information was exposed.
Once the probe is complete, it will disclose its findings along with measures to prevent similar incidents.
