The KOSPI index fell for the sixth consecutive day due to significant foreign net selling. It briefly dipped below the 6000 mark but managed to recover slightly in the latter part of the trading session.

On October 14, the KOSPI closed at 6008.81, down 26.54 points (0.44%) from the previous trading day. During the session, it dropped to as low as 5944 before reducing its losses towards the end.

In the main stock market, foreign and individual investors sold a net 1.36 trillion won and 302.1 billion won, respectively, while institutions bought a net 967.8 billion won. Foreign investors have now sold off for five consecutive trading days.

Foreign selling was primarily focused on semiconductor stocks, with SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics seeing net sales of 3.1 trillion won and 1.6 trillion won, respectively. Samsung Electronics also faced a net sell-off of 232.1 billion won.

Among large-cap stocks, performance was mixed. Samsung Electronics (0.65%), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (1.03%), and LG Energy Solution (2.60%) saw gains, while SK Hynix (-1.25%), SK Square (-0.58%), and Hyundai Motor (-0.48%) declined.

The KOSDAQ index also fell, closing at 823.88, down 13.15 points (1.57%) from the previous day.

In the KOSDAQ market, individual investors bought a net 422 billion won, while foreign and institutional investors sold a net 254.4 billion won and 185 billion won, respectively.

Foreign investors sold off shares in EcoPro and EcoPro BM, with net sales of 26.9 billion won and 22.8 billion won, respectively. Institutions sold off shares in Wonik IPS and EoTechnics, with net sales of 43.1 billion won and 35.9 billion won, respectively.

Most of the top stocks in the KOSDAQ showed weakness, with JUSUNG Engineering (-8.31%), Wonik IPS (-6.83%), and Rino Technology (-4.15%) declining.

In terms of sectors, battery-related stocks showed relative strength, with LG Energy Solution (2.32%), Samsung SDI (5.18%), and EcoPro BM (2.30%) rising.

Analysts noted that ASML's third-quarter results, released at 2 p.m. on the same day, dampened investor sentiment across the semiconductor sector. ASML reported third-quarter revenue of 11.66 billion euros, slightly below market expectations of 11.71 billion euros.

Seo Sang-young, a managing director at Mirae Asset Securities, stated, "This performance highlights that the improvement in earnings and growth outlook was insufficient compared to already high stock prices, rather than a slowdown in demand for AI semiconductor equipment. The Korean stock market has given back some of its gains in response to this news."

Lee Kyung-min, a researcher at Daishin Securities, commented, "There was a rebound in buying pressure following the previous day's sharp decline, but the rise was limited due to rising international oil prices, weak AI momentum, and caution ahead of the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) announcement."
