The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) is promoting pedestrian safety culture in collaboration with citizens at Daejeon Station ahead of Pedestrian Day on November 11.

On November 5, TS announced that it will conduct the nationwide traffic safety campaign 'Safe Walking Today' at Daejeon Station until November 6.

'Safe Walking Today' is a community-focused campaign aimed at spreading safety practices in daily life by informing the public about traffic safety rules at major transportation hubs, tourist destinations, and local festivals.

During the Daejeon Station campaign, a safety pledge corner will be available for all visitors to participate. Attendees will be informed about safety rules, including: crossing the street at crosswalks after checking both ways even when the light is green; wearing bright or reflective clothing at night; using well-lit roads and crosswalks; and checking for pedestrians before vehicles start or reverse in alleys.

Interactive experience programs will also be offered, including a stopwatch game to match the symbolic 5.04 seconds of 'Safe Walking Today' and activities using drunk driving goggles and elderly experience kits.

The elderly experience allows participants to understand the physical challenges faced by older pedestrians, fostering awareness of the importance of pedestrian safety and consideration for vulnerable road users.

This campaign involves local organizations and agencies, including Daejeon Metropolitan City, the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency, Korea Railroad Corporation, Daejeon East Model Driver Association, and the Daejeon Green Mothers Association.

TS's 'Safe Walking Today' campaign began with the Busan Marathon and has continued at major transportation hubs across the country, including Seoul Station, Suwon Station, Incheon International Airport, Jeju Airport, Yeosu Expo Station, and Busan Station. To date, approximately 150,000 people have visited the campaign sites, with over 20,000 participating in the safety pledge.

TS Chairman Jeong Yong-sik stated, "Pedestrians, from children to the elderly, are the most vulnerable on the roads and must be protected. We will continue to promote the importance of pedestrian safety and encourage every citizen's commitment to traffic safety to ensure 'Safe Walking Today' becomes a reality across the nation."
