Syrian major General Jamaa Jamaa (59) was killed during “carrying out his duties of national defense of Syria and its people and pursuing terrorists in Deir Ezzor,” Syrian TV announced.
Jamaa was one of the most powerful generals in Syria and was in charge of military intelligence in the eastern province.
The general was fatally shot near his residence in the al-Joura neighbor of Deir Ezzor as the Islam extremists clashed with the Syrian military. It was reported that Gen. Jamma was targeted by the rebel’s sniper.
Jamaa was previously sanctioned by the EU for “directly involved in violence against the civilian population” two years ago.
