SEOUL, November 04 (AJP) - K-pop super group BTS has become the first K-pop act to earn a platinum album certification in Italy after its latest album “ARIRANG” crossed 50,000 equivalent units, the group’s agency said Wednesday.
The Federation of the Italian Music Industry (FIMI) awarded the certification on Nov. 2 for BTS’ fifth full-length album, "ARIRANG" released in March, according to BigHit Music.
FIMI grants platinum status to albums reaching 50,000 units, combining physical album sales, digital downloads and streaming.
The milestone extends BTS’ record in the Italian market, where five of its previous albums had earned gold certifications.
They include “LOVE YOURSELF 結 Answer,” “MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA,” “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7,” “BE” and anthology album “Proof.”
“ARIRANG” is the first of the group’s albums to move beyond gold to platinum status in Italy.
The certification comes as BTS continues its “ARIRANG” world tour.
The group will begin the Southeast Asian leg in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, this month before heading to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta in December.
