A South Korean drama, “Descendants of the Sun” starring Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki, is dominating the nation’s drama ratings. The drama, which became the South Korean drama-lovers’ favorite in just three episodes, recorded an average rating of 23.4 percent.

The average rating recorded by the drama is phenomenal by the fact that other dramas, which are aired at the same time only has average ratings of three to five percent.

TV dramas with low ratings have been the norm since there are so much to watch for Korean viewers as the most of them are subscribed to cable or IPTVs. Before the Descendants of the Sun, cable channel TVN’s “Reply 1988” was the highest rated drama of this year with an average rating of 20.4 percent.

Many fans say the main actor / actress Song duo are the main reason for the skyrocketing popularity. Not only they look great, but their acting is superb, the fans claim. Also, since there were not many military themed Korean dramas before, a story about a special force soldier and a doctor approach fans as a fresh shock.

Descendants of the Sun is a 16-episode long drama, and unlike other Korean dramas, it’s production is already finished and ready for air.
