Almost one-third of South Korean adults are overweight, a survey showed Monday, reflecting a dietary change and a bigger intake of daily calorie and fat than an internationally recommended amount.
The survey conducted by a research center of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation showed that 31.5 percent of South Koreans aged 19 or more were overweight, compared to 30.3 percent in 2001.
At the end of 2014, the average daily calorie intake was 2,063, compared with 1,881 in 2001 and the daily recommended intake of 2,000, it said. The consumption of carbohydrates and protein has decreased but the daily intake of fat has increased from 83.9 grams in 2001 to 98.27 grams in 2014.
