"Jamsoo Bridge", the lower part of a double decker bridge laid across Seoul's iconic Han River, will be reborn as a beach party zone for three days this week, using actual sand and a water slide along with various food trucks.

The unusual project was arranged by Seoul city officials who hope to provide a relaxing place for citizens at the peak of summer vacations that usually send millions of vacationers to beaches and mountains.

The low-riding bridge, which is only a few meters above from the river's average water level, is notorious for its submersion during a summer rainy season. The Jamsoo bridge, which literally means a submerging bridge in Korean, has become a hot place for bicycle riders and picnickers enjoying a cool river breeze.

For three days from Friday, the popular picnic spot will be filled with sand, a 150- meter-long water slide, sunbeds and beach parasols, according to the Seoul city government. Concerts will be held on Friday night, featuring rock bands.
