SEOUL -- LS Cable & System, a major cable manufacturer based in Seoul, has clinched a contract to supply high voltage cables for Denmark's largest energy company Orsted involved in a massive wind farm project in the North Sea.

LS Cable said in a statement Monday that it would provide some 350 kilometers of cables by 2021 for the Hornsea 2 zone. The South Korean company has secured a deal to provide cables for the Horsea 1 zone.

The development of wind farms in the North Sea has been split into a number of subzones and construction of the first phase started in January 2018.

LS Cable produces power and telecom cables and systems, as well as integrated modules and other related industrial materials. The company hopes to participate in similar projects involving Orsted in other areas.

"This is significant because we have won a series of renewable energy projects in Europe," LS Cable Chief Executive Myung Roe-hyun said in the statement. "We are looking forward to expanding opportunities to participate in projects in Europe, North America and Asia."
