SEOUL -- A university hospital has been selected for a project to develop a mobile modular COVID-19 screening center that will help contain the spread of infectious disease and accelerate diagnosis. The screening center is designed to replace makeshift screening centers set up near multi-use facilities such as subway stations and parks.
Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital said it was selected by the Korea Medical Device Development Fund (KMDF), a public interest foundation established in 2020 for the quick and efficient research and development of medical devices with state support, to participate in a two-year development project to develop a smart screening center.
The university hospital will cooperate with Haewootech, a medical device maker, and E-SOLTEC, a modular building maker, to develop a smart modular screening center featuring a negative pressure system. Negative-pressure modular facilities have been tested by military hospitals. Operators can run them as a single facility or link them to other modular facilities.
More than 150 screening centers have been set up across South Korea to carry out preemptive tests.
