SM Entertainment ties up with YouTube to remaster old K-pop music videos

SEOUL -- SM Entertainment, a major entertainment powerhouse in South Korea, teamed up with YouTube to restore old K-pop music videos from the 1990s and 2000s and recreate them into new versions.

Starting with the remastered version of H.O.T.'s "Warrior's Descendants," released on November 4, 2021, SM Entertainment will release remastered music videos of famous artists such as S.E.S., SHINHWA, Fly to the Sky and BoA through the company's official YouTube channels. Some songs will be remade through collaborations with young SM artists. Songs of 50 artists will be released weekly.

YouTube and SM Entertainment will also jointly roll out promotions for the remastering project. K-pop rookie girl band aespa will remake the performance for "Dreams Come True," S.E.S.' song released in 1998. The two companies will also collaborate with various YouTube creators to promote the project.

"We have been supporting artists in Korea and all over the world by working with our label partners and investing in programs like Artist on the Rise and Foundry to support local and global talent," said Lyor Cohen, YouTube's Global Head of Music. He added: "YouTube is delighted and honored to partner with SM Entertainment and the Korean music industry on archiving the history of a global cultural trend, K-pop, through this remastering project, and we hope global music fans will enjoy a more diverse catalog of K-pop with the project."
