BARCELONA -- In a bid to compete with top global generative artificial intelligence service providers such as Google and OpenAI, South Korea's major telecom company KT has forged an alliance with Amazon Web Services, the cloud computing and internet server service wing of e-commerce giant Amazon.
Generative AI is a type of AI that can create new content such as images, text, and music based on patterns it has studied through machine learning processes. Enterprises of all sizes across the world are adopting generative AI solutions to increase work efficiency and reduce operating costs. According to Statista, a global market research firm, the global market for generative AI is projected to stand at $66.2 billion in 2024.
KT said that the company signed a cooperation agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), an annual mobile devices and technology exhibition held in Barcelona. The two companies agreed to utilize Amazon's Bedrock to jointly develop generative AI services and distribute them using private 5G mobile communication networks.
Amazon's Bedrock offers a selection of high-performance generative AI models created by AI developers. A private 5G network is an ultra-fast mobile network that covers a small area like the size of a football field. When a private 5G network and generative AI services are combined, it becomes an ideal automation tool solution for factories and offices.
"Based on the latest technologies such as generative AI, cloud computing, and private 5G communication, we will help our customers accelerate their digital transformation," KT's enterprise business division Vice President Ahn Chang-yong said in a statement on February 29.
