SEOUL, May 28 (AJU PRESS) - The state-run Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) has partnered with Galaxy Corp., an artificial intelligence and metaverse start-up, to develop cutting-edge technologies to power the K-pop industry.

Galaxy specializes in combining artificial intelligence and virtual reality technologies with entertainment content. The company is also well known for representing K-pop star G-Dragon.

The two entities signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday to secure various scientific and technological resources for the global K-pop business.

They will also establish a joint research center for the development and commercialization of related technologies.

Their partnership dates back to February 2022, when Galaxy used its technology to present KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung's speech with avatars during a graduation ceremony.

Established in 2019, Galaxy has been involved in the production of some popular TV shows, including the dance survival program "Street Woman Fighter" (2021) and the second series of "Physical: 100" (2024), a Netflix reality show featuring physically fit contestants engaging in games and competitions.

"I believe that this collaboration with Galaxy Corp. is a great opportunity to apply KAIST's science and technology to the global stage through K-content and culture," Lee said in a press release.

G-Dragon is scheduled to participate in a talk show with Lee and Galaxy CEO Choi Yong-ho at the Innovate Korea 2024 conference at KAIST's main campus in Daejeon on June 5.

G-Dragon joined Galaxy in December 2023 after terminating his contract with YG Entertainment. The 35-year-old is set to make his comeback with a new album in the second half of 2024 after a hiatus of about seven years.
