SEOUL, June 19 (AJU PRESS) - HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) showcased an artificial intelligence-based offshore patrol vessel (OPV) Wednesday at a maritime exhibition in the western port city of Incheon.

The world's largest shipbuilder is participating in the Korea Ocean Expo 2024, a biennial event that started that day for a three-day run. The maritime exhibition is attended by experts from various fields including maritime, aviation, port, logistics and leisure industries.

HHI displayed models of its 3,000-ton OPV, scheduled for delivery to the Korea Coast Guard in 2026, and a 2,400-ton OPV to be exported to the Philippine Navy also in 2026.

The newly unveiled OPV features a stealth design and is capable of operating a 10-ton helicopter and drones. The integration of AI technology enables the vessel to perform maritime surveillance, search and rescue and disaster relief.

"We will continue to lead the development of different types of vessels integrating technological advancements and future operational environments, aiming to promote the growth of the coastguard and advance into the global market," HHI's special ship business division head Joo Won-ho said in a press release.
