SEOUL, July 01 (AJU PRESS) - The ASEAN-Korea Centre is set to host a seminar on sustainable waste management in Laos this week.

Scheduled to take place in the Southeast Asian country's capital of Vientiane on July 2~3, the seminar is expected to bring together government officials and industry leaders from Korea and five Mekong ASEAN countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

The two-day seminar will feature a series of forums, discussions and activities including a field trip.

Secretary General Kim Jae-shin at the centre stressed the importance of waste management in the rapidly developing ASEAN region. "With increasing urbanization and population growth, waste management has emerged as a critical issue for sustainable development in the ASEAN countries," he said.

The first day of the seminar will consist of three sessions. The first session will focus on regional cooperation in waste management, followed by government officials sharing their respective waste management policies and visions in the second session. The final session will showcase the latest waste management technologies from leading companies in the field and discuss plans for cooperation between the ASEAN countries.

The following day, participants will visit the Integrated Resources Recovery Centre, the city's waste-to-resource facility to observe its waste management practices. They will also meet the city's municipal officials to discuss challenges in local waste management.

Since its establishment in 2009, the ASEAN-Korea Centre has actively promoted economic exchanges and partnerships between Korea and the ASEAN countries.

The seminar aims to raise awareness about the growing importance of sustainable waste management in the region and foster collaboration between the ASEAN countries and Korea.
