SEOUL, August 5 (AJU PRESS) - Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Korean residents and visitors in Lebanon and Israel to leave the countries immediately on Sunday.

The measure came after a meeting chaired by Second Vice Foreign Minister Kang In-sun on the same day.

Amid heightened tensions in the region after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, a senior Hamas leader in Tehran last week, the region is bracing for a possible retaliatory attack as Iran's supreme leader vowed to strike Israel.

In preparation for emergencies, many countries including France, the U.K., and the U.S. have urged their nationals to leave Lebanon without delay, with Sweden even temporarily closing its embassy in Beirut.

Currently, approximately 530 Koreans are in Israel, 130 in Lebanon, and 110 in Iran. The ministry has pledged to make every effort to ensure the safety of Korean nationals in these high-risk areas, closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local embassies.
