Naver reports record-high Q3 operating profit

SEOUL, November 8 (AJP) - Korean tech giant Naver reported a record-high operating profit for the third quarter on Friday.

The nation's largest internet portal announced that its consolidated revenue for the July to September period reached 2.7 trillion won ($1.9 billion), with an operating profit of 525.3 billion won and a net profit of 530.1 billion won.

Compared to the same period in 2023, revenue increased by 11.1 percent. Operating profit and net income grew by 38.2 percent and 48.8 percent, respectively.

Its search platform generated 997.7 billion won in sales, driven by growth in short-form content, feed services, and improvements in advertising products, which led to an 11 percent year-on-year increase. The commerce segment reached 725.4 billion won, growing 12 percent year-on-year, thanks to brand collaborations and enhanced membership benefits.

Revenue from the fintech business recorded a 13 percent increase, reaching 385.1 billion won. Naver Pay's reached a payment volume of 18.6 trillion won, up 22.1 percent year-on-year. The content segment saw strong performance from Japan's Line Manga, achieving sales of 462.8 billion won. The cloud segment recorded 144.6 billion won in sales, driven by the growth of Neurocloud and Line Works.

"We are strengthening our search capabilities with AI and data-driven approaches, expanding ultra-personalized services tailored to users' interests, and continuing to enhance our platform," said Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon. She added that the company aims to create new growth opportunities by applying generative AI to both online and offline services including maps, real estate and digital twins.
