Prime Minister Han stresses global solidarity at Boao Forum for Asia

SEOUL, November 22 (AJP) - South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo stressed the need for international solidarity and cooperation amid rising geopolitical tensions and rapid advancements in artificial intelligence. 

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Boao Forum Seoul Conference on Friday, Han said now is a critical time for enhanced global collaboration.

The conference, held under the theme "Towards a Shared Future" at a hotel in Seoul, is organized by a nonprofit aimed at fostering economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Han highlighted Korea's initiatives to engage with emerging economic regions, such as Pacific Island nations, Africa, and Central Asia, as well as efforts to establish AI regulations. "As a global pivotal state, our government is committed to working toward a shared future," he said.

Han also noted Korea's plans to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit next year. "Through the APEC summit, we aim to contribute to building an open, dynamic, resilient, and peaceful Asia-Pacific community," he said.

The forum gathered around 300 participants, including notable figures such as Ban Ki-moon, chairman of the Boao Forum and former UN secretary-general, Zhang Jun, secretary-general of the Boao Forum, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former prime minister of Pakistan, and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, former president of the Philippines.
