KB Kookmin Card is strengthening its financial consumer protection function and role.

The company said Thursday it has created a board-level Consumer Protection Committee, a move aimed at proactively implementing the Financial Supervisory Service’s “best practices for financial consumer protection governance” announced in September last year and embedding consumer protection as a core management value.

The newly launched committee will set basic policies for building and operating an internal control system for financial consumer protection. It will also review and approve the strategic direction and detailed action plans for consumer protection and oversee the results of related in-house committees.

The committee will meet regularly at least once every six months and will hold additional meetings as needed to discuss key agenda items. KB Kookmin Card said the goal is to institutionalize consumer protection within the board, the company’s top decision-making body, and strengthen management and oversight.

“By making consumer protection our top value and a principle we must comply with proactively, we have clarified our commitment institutionally,” a KB Kookmin Card official said. “Through a companywide, prevention-focused consumer protection system, we will work to enhance financial consumers’ rights and build trust.”

Separately, KB Kookmin Card established a VOC (Voice of Customer) management council last year to more actively reflect customer feedback in its decision-making process.
