Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, visited the protest site at the Jamshil counting center on June 16, which was sparked by a shortage of ballots during the June 3 local elections. After discussions with police officials, Jang announced plans to enter the handball stadium with party lawmakers, sports officials, and media cameras.

Jang arrived at the Olympic Park handball stadium after a standoff between police and citizens earlier in the day when police attempted to enter the site. Around 2 p.m., he stated at the entrance of the handball stadium, "We will ensure that items from the sports organizations can be brought out."

He explained that he would enter the stadium with two cameras from broadcasting companies, two staff members from various sports organizations, and lawmakers.

"To achieve the results we desire, we need to win the hearts of the people," Jang said. "While everyone has their own thoughts, I hope those watching will feel that we have gathered with a pure heart to protect democracy and voting rights in South Korea. Please observe us in an orderly manner."

He added, "I hope we can show a beautiful and mature spirit so that our hearts can unite. Even if there are complaints or dissatisfaction, we will see this re-election through to the end and achieve reforms in the special investigation team and the election commission."

Earlier, police and sports organizations attempted to enter the handball stadium, which had been used as a counting center, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
