With heavy rain expected this weekend, particularly in southern regions, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs convened an emergency preparedness meeting on June 18.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted thunderstorms and showers starting in the afternoon, primarily affecting inland areas. From June 19, heavy rain is anticipated nationwide, beginning with Jeju, Jeolla, and Gyeongnam provinces, lasting until June 20.

In response, the Ministry is collaborating with nine provinces, the Rural Development Administration, the Korea Forest Service, and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation to establish a cooperative system and inspect infrastructure such as reservoirs. Additionally, safety management training for heavy rain preparedness is being conducted across four regions until June 26.

The Ministry has also activated a supply stabilization task force ahead of the summer rains. On June 17, it formed the 'Summer Agricultural and Livestock Product Supply Stabilization Task Force' to proactively address supply instability, holding regular meetings biweekly. The task force aims to respond swiftly to weather-related risks and, if supply concerns arise, to release stockpiles and provide discounts.

Kang Dong-yoon, Director of the Rural Income and Energy Policy Division at the Ministry, stated, "Given the significant damage caused by heavy rains each year, please inspect vulnerable areas such as irrigation facilities, livestock, horticulture, landslide-prone regions, and solar power installations on mountains. In the event of damage, ensure that the situation is reported immediately and that a recovery support system is in place."
