LS Electric is accelerating its energy efficiency initiatives by collaborating with Sajo Group and Korea Electric Power's subsidiary, Kepco ES, to establish energy-saving solutions.
On June 18, LS Electric signed an MOU with Sajo Group and Kepco ES at the LS Yongsan Tower in Seoul, aimed at enhancing energy efficiency projects.
Under this agreement, LS Electric will supply IE5-grade ultra-efficient motors and high-efficiency inverter package solutions to Sajo Group's facilities. The first step involves replacing the cooling water pump motors at the Sajo Systems Pyeongtaek Logistics Center with high-efficiency units, with plans to expand this initiative to other major sites within the group.
Electric motors account for half of global electricity consumption, making them a critical area for energy savings. The efficiency gains are maximized when these motors are used in conjunction with inverters that control their rotational speed. LS Electric anticipates that the implementation of these solutions will reduce energy usage at the facility by approximately 8%.
Additionally, LS Electric will provide free consulting services through its 'Beyond X Enable' program, which analyzes energy usage across Sajo Group's subsidiaries and identifies further energy-saving opportunities to continuously improve efficiency.
Sajo Group is the first in the food industry to adopt high-efficiency equipment, aligning with carbon neutrality efforts and government policies. Kepco ES will support Sajo Group in replacing equipment without upfront investment, allowing the group to recover costs through the savings generated from reduced energy expenses.
As the government strengthens the Energy Efficiency Resource Standard (EERS), which mandates energy savings targets for energy suppliers, the related market is expected to grow rapidly. The government plans to increase the current savings target from 0.3% of electricity sales to 1% by 2031.
An LS Electric representative stated, "The ultra-efficient motors and high-efficiency inverter package solutions will ensure significant energy savings and carbon reduction in industrial settings. We are committed to supporting our customers' ESG management and leading the growing energy efficiency market."
