Upstage Company is officially applying its self-developed language model (LLM) 'Solar' to the portal 'Daum'. The initiative, part of the 'Reader AI Foundation Model' project, aims to combine Upstage's AI model with Daum's services, which attract over 10 million users weekly, to facilitate everyday AI usage on the portal.

On July 1, Upstage Company announced the launch of a beta service called 'AI Summary' on the Daum portal, which automatically summarizes search results.

The AI Summary feature allows the LLM to analyze web documents directly and provide comprehensive answers to search queries. When users enter keywords into the Daum search bar, the service delivers key summaries along with supporting evidence. The AI automatically updates to reflect any changes in content, ensuring users have access to the latest information.

The AI can interpret not only short phrases but also full-sentence questions, organizing responses accordingly. For searches where procedures are important, it presents step-by-step lists, while comparative searches are displayed in tables, enhancing readability based on the nature of the query.

The foundational model for the AI Summary feature is Upstage's own LLM, Solar. This model is being refined through the government's 'Reader AI Foundation Model' project, in which Upstage is a lead participant.

Daum's search capabilities will evolve into a hybrid model that combines traditional keyword searches with AI summaries. The AI Summary feature will initially be applied to six key areas closely related to daily life: issues (real-time trends), finance, entertainment, health, dictionaries, and everyday topics. Plans are in place to expand these areas and release a formal version by the end of the year.

Upstage also plans to introduce an 'AI mode' that will completely replace Daum's integrated search with an interactive AI by the end of the year. This mode will allow users to explore various information through direct conversations with the AI. Upstage aims to foster a 'national AI ecosystem' based on the Daum portal and the AI multi-platform company 'Timely'.

Kim Sung-hoon, CEO of Upstage, stated, "The Daum AI Summary is a starting point to demonstrate the changes that can occur when AI models interact with the daily lives of countless people. In the future, we will integrate Upstage's AI throughout Daum's services, ushering in an era of 'AI for Everyone' where anyone can naturally benefit from AI in their daily lives."
