LG Chem is accelerating its expansion strategy in the semiconductor sector by entering the semiconductor stripper business.

On July 5, LG Chem announced that it will begin mass production of semiconductor strippers for Amkor, a global leader in semiconductor packaging and testing services. Amkor provides these services to major semiconductor companies.

Strippers are essential materials used to remove photoresist (PR) and residues left on substrates after semiconductor circuit formation. As circuits become more refined, the performance of residue removal directly impacts product yield and reliability, making the technology behind strippers a critical factor in semiconductor quality.

Leveraging its expertise and customer experience gained from its display stripper business, LG Chem has entered the semiconductor stripper market. The company confirmed its competitiveness by passing rigorous technical validations from global packaging firms with its first semiconductor product.

The product being supplied to Amkor is a customized stripper optimized for its new line, significantly reducing the time required to strip photoresist and residues by 50%, thereby enhancing process efficiency.

With recent increases in AI investments and demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), investments in advanced packaging are rising, further underscoring the importance of high-performance process materials.

Kim Dong-chun, CEO of LG Chem, stated, "Through collaboration with Amkor, a world-class packaging company, we will further strengthen our competitive edge in customized materials optimized for customer processes."

Meanwhile, LG Chem has reduced the supply price of basic petrochemicals, such as ethylene and propylene, by 100,000 to 200,000 won per ton, utilizing government subsidies for naphtha to support small and medium-sized customers and enhance cooperative relationships.
