Daewoo Engineering is expanding its collaboration on integrated development projects that link AI data centers with energy infrastructure in Indonesia.
The company announced that Chairman Jung Won-joo visited Jakarta from July 7 to 11, where he met with local government officials and major developers to discuss future growth opportunities.
During the visit, Jung proposed an 'all-in-one integrated development' model that includes the construction of small modular reactors (SMR), LNG terminals, power plants, and gigawatt-level AI data centers. He also discussed investment and development cooperation in real estate projects, including new city developments.
Jung met with several key figures, including Sugeng Suparwoto, Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives' 12th Committee, and Todatua Pasaribu, Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream at the Ministry of Investment. He also spoke with Pandu Syahrir, Chief Investment Officer of the Indonesia Investment Authority, and Seung Bum-soo, Vice Chairman of the Korindo Group.
In meetings with Suparwoto and Pasaribu, Jung highlighted Daewoo's extensive experience in constructing LNG plants and energy infrastructure. He explained the integrated development model that simultaneously builds power infrastructure, such as SMR and LNG terminals, along with AI data centers.
The Indonesian government reportedly expressed a strong willingness to support the advancement of related projects.
In discussions with Syahrir, the two sides explored ways to expand cooperation in investment and development projects, including new city developments. They agreed to continue identifying specific projects for collaboration in large-scale development initiatives.
Daewoo Engineering views Indonesia, alongside Vietnam, as a key strategic market for the future. Since entering Indonesia in 1986, the company has completed seven projects worth approximately $540 million in construction, plant, and industrial equipment, including a Kraft paper mill, the District 8 construction project, and the second phase of the Tanggu LNG expansion project.
In May of last year, Jung met with President Prabowo Subianto to express the company's commitment to expanding its business in Indonesia. In April of this year, during President Prabowo's visit to South Korea, Daewoo signed a memorandum of understanding with Sinarmas Land and the Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation for the BSD new city development.
AI data centers require substantial power and reliable cooling and communication infrastructure, making the integrated business model that combines energy, urban development, and real estate a new strategy for overseas construction companies.
Daewoo Engineering plans to continue expanding its projects in Indonesia, including SMR, LNG plants, AI infrastructure, and real estate development. The company aims to establish a business model that encompasses both investment and development, drawing on its experience in new city developments like Star Lake City in Vietnam.
A Daewoo representative stated, “Indonesia is a core strategic market for Daewoo Engineering with abundant growth potential. We aim to be a trusted partner contributing to Indonesia's sustainable growth across various sectors, including real estate development, LNG plants, energy infrastructure, and AI data centers.”
