CJ Group to Host National and International Taekwondo Tournaments in Vietnam

CJ Group announced on July 22 that it will host consecutive national and international taekwondo tournaments at the Lac Miou Sports Complex in Ho Chi Minh City from July 23 to 29.

The "2026 CJ National Youth Taekwondo Championship" will take place from July 23 to 27, followed by the international event, the "CJ Vietnam Open," on July 28 and 29. Now in its sixth year, the CJ National Youth Taekwondo Championship is the only national taekwondo tournament in Vietnam sponsored by a foreign company. This year, approximately 1,300 participants, including 1,000 athletes representing 31 provinces in Vietnam and 300 officials, are expected to compete.

The CJ Vietnam Open, established last year, will feature athletes from emerging taekwondo nations such as India, Cambodia, and Japan. It is anticipated to serve as a practical competition for athletes ahead of the Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya in September. All matches from both tournaments will be broadcast live on Vietnam's online video service platform, FPT Play.

Since 2012, CJ Group has supported the Vietnamese national taekwondo team with overseas training and participation in international competitions. In 2017, the company dispatched coach Kim Gil-tae, a former member of the South Korean youth national team, to Vietnam. As a result, the Vietnamese team won a total of nine medals, including two golds, at this year's Asian Taekwondo Championships.

A CJ Group representative stated, "We will create an environment where Vietnamese taekwondo athletes can realize their dreams on the world stage, from youth development to national team support."

Meanwhile, the CJ Nanum Foundation, in collaboration with the Tmoney Welfare Foundation, will provide up to 3 million won each to 50 children's welfare institutions in mountainous areas, totaling 150 million won, for summer cultural experience expenses.
