SEOUL, July 27 (AJP) - President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating fell for another week, according to a survey by pollster Realmeter released on Monday.
In its survey of more than 2,500 adults nationwide last week, 46.3 percent of respondents said Lee was doing well, down 2.1 percentage points from the previous week. Slightly more respondents or 49.5 percent disapproved of his performance, while 4.2 percent remained undecided.
Lee's approval rating has now remained in the 40 percent range for six consecutive weeks after dropping to 46.7 percent in the third week of June, the first time it had fallen below 50 percent since he took office.
By region, Lee's approval rating fell the most in traditionally conservative Daegu and North Gyeongsang, dropping 16.8 percentage points to 30.1 percent. It also declined 5.1 points in the liberal strongholds of Gwangju and the Jeolla provinces to 74.6 percent.
By age group, Lee's approval rating fell the most among people aged 70 and older, dropping 10.3 percentage points to 40.9 percent. It also fell 4.3 points among people in their 40s to 51.2 percent and declined 2.7 points among those in their 20s to 32.8 percent. In contrast, approval rose 4.5 points among people in their 30s to 39.3 percent.
In a separate survey of about 1,000 adults conducted last Thursday and Friday, 41.3 percent supported the ruling Democratic Party (DP), down 1.8 percentage points from the previous week, while 40.6 percent supported the main opposition People Power Party (PPP), up 0.6 points.
Among minor partis, the liberal Rebuilding Korea Party garnered 3.3 percent, followed by the centrist Reform Party at 2.2 percent and the left-wing Progressive Party at 1 percent. Some 9.6 percent supported none of the parties.
The survey was conducted through computer-assisted telephone interviews using randomly generated mobile phone numbers. More details are available on the website of the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission.
