SEOUL, July 30 (AJP) - American superhero film "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" topped the domestic box office, attracting about 680,000 moviegoers on its opening day this week.
According to ticket sales data compiled by the Korean Film Council on Thursday, the film drew 689,076 moviegoers the previous day.
The film had the best opening day among movies released in recent years, drawing more viewers than Hollywood animated film "Zootopia 2" and Japanese fantasy animation "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle," which attracted 309,168 and 517,922 moviegoers, respectively, on their first days in theaters last year.
It also outperformed previous Spider-Man franchise films on their opening days, surpassing "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017) with 540,000 moviegoers, "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (2019) with 670,000, and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021) with 630,000.

The star-studded action blockbuster, featuring Tom Holland, Zendaya and Mark Ruffalo, follows a superhero who has been forgotten by everyone as he faces a mysterious enemy who still remembers his true identity. After gaining uncontrollable new powers through a DNA mutation, he must confront a dangerous new threat to protect those closest to him.
The 145-minute film was released in South Korea on Wednesday, two days ahead of its North American release on the last day of this month.
