SEOUL, August 10 (AJP) - Naver announced Monday it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Institute for Lifelong Education (NILE) to jointly develop AI and digital literacy content tailored to senior citizens, as part of a broader push to narrow South Korea's digital divide.

The agreement revealed Monday was signed on Aug. 7 at Naver's headquarters in Bundang, the company said.

It aims to strengthen everyday AI and digital competency among seniors and other digitally underserved groups amid the wider shift toward AI.

Under the partnership, the two organizations plan to co-develop and distribute lifelong education content on AI and digital tools. A key component will be a digital literacy textbook built on Naver's Whale browser, designed to walk users through practical services such as Naver Shopping and Whale's core functions.

"By linking Naver's technology with the education field in the era of generative AI, we can innovatively bridge the digital literacy gap in daily life," said Kim Wol-yong, president of NILE.

Naver said the collaboration would also feed into its commercial ambitions.

Lee Yoon-sook, who heads Naver's shopping business division, said the company would keep upgrading its services for the "AI commerce era" while backing the educational push "so that AI-based services, including Naver Shopping, can become easy and convenient tools for anyone."
