Hanmi Pharmaceutical's Paltan smart plant, a production base for synthetic drugs, has improved supply stability and quality control metrics in the first half of this year, enhancing its manufacturing competitiveness.
Hanmi Science, the core business unit of Hanmi Pharmaceutical, reported on August 13 that the number of its products experiencing shortages lasting more than five days decreased by approximately 57% compared to the same period last year. The number of shortages for contract-manufactured items also fell by about 48%.
The company attributed this achievement to a more stable production and supply management system. It plans to further enhance drug supply stability by increasing the precision of its supply planning and production operations.
Quality control metrics also showed improvement. The occurrence of Out of Specification (OOS) and Out of Trend (OOT) results fell by about 39% compared to the previous year, and production equipment downtime decreased by approximately 33%.
The Paltan smart plant maintains a deviation rate lower than the industry average (12-14%) according to the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) quality metrics. Hanmi Pharmaceutical systematically manages quality indicators while continuously analyzing the causes of deviations and implementing preventive measures.
The company is enhancing overall management levels in manufacturing through adjustments in production planning based on demand fluctuations, optimizing inventory operations, stabilizing equipment, and proactively addressing quality issues. With the establishment of a productivity improvement task force in June, Hanmi plans to strengthen the connection between headquarters and manufacturing sites and accelerate the enhancement of manufacturing competitiveness in the second half of the year.
Hanmi Pharmaceutical CEO Hwang Sang-yeon stated, "The improvements in shortage and quality metrics in the first half of this year are the results of efforts made collectively by all employees to ensure stable drug supply. In the second half, we will strive to achieve significant results in overall productivity metrics, including Right First Time (RFT)."
Meanwhile, Hanmi Pharmaceutical is continuously strengthening its environmental, health, and safety (EHS) management systems at its key facilities, including the Pyeongtaek and Paltan manufacturing centers.
