Woori Financial Group's Woori Financial Future Foundation is expanding its social contribution initiative to provide meals for elementary students at risk of skipping breakfast in the Gangwon region.

On August 24, the foundation announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education and World Vision for the 'Our Children's Healthy Breakfast' program.

The program aims to provide balanced meals to students who go to school without breakfast. Following the initial agreement with the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education in July, the initiative is now extending its support to Gangwon.

Eleven elementary schools across eight regions in Gangwon, including Jeongseon, Cheorwon, and Pyeongchang, will participate in the program. Starting in the second semester, 175 students will receive breakfast, with meals prepared by local small businesses and delivered to the schools.

Students will have breakfast in designated areas at school with their friends before attending classes.

Notably, the program emphasizes collaboration with local small businesses, addressing the issue of child hunger while promoting mutual growth within the community.

The initiative also considers local conditions. For instance, Jeongseon Jeungsan Elementary School, where a high percentage of students miss breakfast due to school bus commutes, will include all 19 students in the breakfast support program.

Jang Kwang-ik, Secretary General of the Woori Financial Future Foundation, stated, "Breakfast is essential for children to grow healthily and start their day. We will gradually review expanding support so that more children in various regions can start their mornings with a healthy breakfast, beginning with Incheon and Gangwon this year."
