Coupang Eats is accelerating efforts to expand online sales channels for traditional market vendors.

The company announced on September 1 that sales from participating stores in the 'Our Neighborhood Real Market - Sokcho Tourist Fish Market' promotion increased by 87% compared to the same period last month.

The promotion ran from July 16 to August 17, targeting summer vacation tourists and local consumers. Coupang Eats provided discount coupons and highlighted recommended stores, while also supporting some vendors with promotional videos and menu photography.

This is not the first initiative aimed at supporting traditional markets. A similar promotion held in March at the Cheongnyangni Comprehensive Market in Seoul saw participating stores' sales rise by approximately 54% compared to the previous month. Following this, support for eco-friendly packaging, one-on-one online sales consulting, meal kit production, and collaboration with Kyung Hee University continued, resulting in a roughly 40% increase in sales for Cheongnyangni market vendors in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year.

Coupang Eats is also focusing on fee support for traditional markets. Since April, the company has applied a 6.8% service fee for regular store packaging orders, but it has decided to maintain a free promotion for traditional markets and small businesses with sales in the bottom 20% until March 2027. Coupang Eats has been offering a free service fee policy for packaging services since October 2021.

A Coupang Eats representative stated, “We will continue to provide various support through collaborative promotions and digital transformation programs that reflect the characteristics of each region and market to revitalize traditional markets.”
