LG Electronics and NVIDIA Begin Collaboration in Physical AI

LG Electronics and NVIDIA have commenced practical collaboration in the field of physical artificial intelligence (AI).

According to industry sources on September 21, LG Electronics and NVIDIA have been engaging in both online and offline collaboration focused on practical work since signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last month, particularly in future strategic business areas including physical AI.

The two companies signed the MOU on August 13 at NVIDIA's headquarters in Santa Clara, California, to collaborate on future strategic business initiatives. The core of this partnership is to combine LG's expertise and data in manufacturing and robotics with NVIDIA's AI and computing technologies to expand their cooperation in the physical AI sector.

Physical AI refers to technology that enables AI to perceive and make judgments about the real world, allowing physical devices like robots to operate autonomously. As the competitive landscape for generative AI extends beyond software into robotics and manufacturing, significant investments from global tech giants and manufacturers are being directed toward this area.

LG views the data accumulated from its home appliances and manufacturing sites as a key asset for enhancing its competitiveness in physical AI. The company is particularly focused on developing robotic AI technology that enables robots to perform various tasks in real-world environments as a future business initiative. NVIDIA is also expanding the physical AI ecosystem by promoting computing platforms and simulation technologies necessary for robot development and learning, beyond just AI semiconductors.

At the group level, LG is reinforcing its focus on AI and robotics. LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo recently urged executives to accelerate speed and execution in future growth areas such as AI and robotics during a meeting with company presidents. LG Electronics plans to strengthen its competitiveness in physical AI technology by combining data gathered from real-world environments with NVIDIA's AI technologies.

An LG Electronics official stated, "Since the MOU in August, our teams have been collaborating on various joint projects both online and offline," adding, "Details of the collaboration are difficult to confirm."
