Korean Films 'Assassins' and 'Tazza 4' Lead Box Office During Chuseok

During the Chuseok holiday, director Hur Jin-ho's film 'Assassins' topped the box office. Following closely was 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' directed by Choi Kook-hee, while 'Odyssey,' which surpassed 10 million viewers, and 'Intern' starring Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee also attracted audiences.

According to data from the Korean Film Council's integrated ticket sales system, 'Assassins' drew 1,407,636 viewers from September 24 to 27, securing the top spot at the box office. 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' came in second with 710,483 viewers, while 'Odyssey' and 'Intern' ranked third and fourth with 455,319 and 261,472 viewers, respectively.

'Assassins' surpassed 1 million viewers within just four days of its release and continued its strong performance over the first weekend. By September 27, it had accumulated a total of 1,566,222 viewers, breaking the opening week record of 'The King and the Clown' and leading the box office for Korean films during the Chuseok holiday.

Starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Min-ho, 'Assassins' is a mystery film that investigates the suspicions and background surrounding the assassination attempt on the First Lady on August 15, 1974. The film is a collaboration between Hive Media Corp, which produced 'The Spring of Seoul,' and director Hur Jin-ho.

Released on the same day, 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' achieved 833,030 viewers in its opening week despite its restricted rating. Notably, on the third day of the holiday, September 26, it attracted 214,889 viewers, marking its highest daily attendance since its release.

The final installment of the 'Tazza' series, 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' follows Jang Tae-young (played by Byun Yo-han), who, after succeeding in the online casino business, seeks revenge against a namesake, Park Tae-young (played by Noh Jae-won), who has taken everything from him. The film has received positive reviews, recording a CGV Golden Egg Index of 93% since its release.

Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey' secured the third spot at the box office. Released on September 5, 'Odyssey' continued to perform well, adding 455,319 viewers over four days, bringing its total to 11,783,297 viewers by September 27. Even after nearly two months since its release, it maintained third place in daily box office rankings throughout the holiday.

'Intern,' featuring Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee, ranked fourth, attracting 261,472 viewers during the holiday, with a cumulative total of 756,057 viewers. The film tells the story of Gi-ho (Choi Min-sik), a silver intern with 37 years of experience, who joins the company of a young CEO, Sun-woo (Han So-hee).

'Intern' has achieved a CGV Golden Egg Index of 95% and a Lotte Cinema viewer rating of 9.1. It differentiates itself as an office drama suitable for family audiences, drawing in viewers amid competition from other films.

This year's Chuseok box office was dominated by 'Assassins' and 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub,' while 'Odyssey' continued its long-term success, supported by 'Intern.' Attention is now on whether the trend of Korean film success will continue after the holiday.
