“Coming to the welfare center every week, laughing and receiving great education has made me healthier both physically and mentally.”

Local seniors who participated in various cognitive and physical activities at the Muan Comprehensive Social Welfare Center since May celebrated their graduation from the 'Memory Playground' program after five months of engagement.

On September 28, the welfare center held a graduation ceremony for over 20 seniors who took part in the dementia prevention program 'Memory Playground' in the center's auditorium.

Supported by the Community Chest of Korea, the Memory Playground was designed to assist seniors with cognitive activities and emotional exchanges.

The program included 'Memory Strengthening Physical Activities,' 'Memory Finger Crafts' where participants created art, 'Memory Nature Walks' to connect with the outdoors, and 'Memory Feast Cooking Activities' where they prepared meals.

In addition to indoor education, the program incorporated external experiences linked to local resources. In June, participants visited a farm in Cheonggye-myeon for animal feeding, barefoot walking, and making clay pots. In July, they collaborated with Chodang University to create sandwiches in the 'Memory Feast' program.

During the graduation ceremony, certificates and commemorative gifts were presented to seniors who consistently participated in the program. Participants took time to congratulate each other and reflect on their activities.

One participant expressed, “Coming to the welfare center every week, laughing and receiving great education has made me healthier both physically and mentally.”

Jeong Byeong-soon, director of the Muan Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, stated, “I hope this Memory Playground program energizes seniors for a healthy retirement. We will continue to promote various community-linked programs for local residents.”

Meanwhile, the Muan Comprehensive Social Welfare Center operates tailored programs for enhancing residents' welfare and leisure activities in collaboration with local organizations. Recently, Chodang University’s Industry-Academic Cooperation Group was selected as the new managing agency through an open recruitment and review process, and will oversee the center's operations, facility management, and community welfare projects for the next five years starting October 1.
