Gaon Cable has officially announced its entry into the U.S. power transmission market, significantly expanding its presence in North America's power infrastructure sector.

On September 29, Gaon Cable revealed plans to invest in overhead line production facilities through its U.S. subsidiary, LSCUS. The company aims to actively broaden its footprint in the transmission sector, which has primarily focused on distribution in the U.S. market.

With the recent decision by the government to prioritize a gas combined cycle power project as its first major investment in the U.S., demand for related cables is expected to surge. The construction of gas power plants requires internal low-voltage (LV) cables and medium-voltage (MV) cables for connections between power plants and substations, making the establishment of a transmission network essential.

LSCUS is set to complete the expansion of its MV and LV cable production lines in phases, with the first phase scheduled for October this year and the second phase in the first half of next year. The plan includes enhancing production facilities for overhead lines to establish a comprehensive local supply system covering the transmission network.

Gaon Cable is currently supplying LV cables for a power plant being built by a major tech company in Texas for its AIDC power grid. Once the overhead line investment is completed, the company will have a portfolio that connects internal power networks to transmission networks. There is growing interest in the synergy with LS Green Link's high-voltage submarine and underground cable projects.

Gaon Cable stated, "In line with the trend of increasing investments in nuclear power in the U.S., we are also considering entering the nuclear cable market and plan to proceed gradually in accordance with project schedules and market conditions."
