Hana Bank has reported a data breach in which the personal information of 89 customers was exposed due to an external hacking attack. This incident follows similar breaches at Shinhan Bank and KB Kookmin Bank, raising concerns about security in the banking sector.

On October 2, Hana Bank announced that external hackers had gained unauthorized access to its Operational Support System (ODS), resulting in the exposure of customer information.

The leaked data includes names, resident registration numbers, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, mobile numbers, and workplace information. However, the bank clarified that this system operates separately from its internet and mobile banking platforms, and no financial transaction information was compromised.

Hana Bank stated that it activated its emergency response system immediately after detecting hacking attempts on other financial institutions. The bank reported the incident to the Financial Supervisory Service and other relevant agencies. It has also blocked the IP addresses associated with the breach and formed an emergency response task force, including its ICT group and financial consumer protection department, to prevent further damage.

The bank is notifying affected customers individually about the data breach and has pledged to fully compensate any actual damages incurred as a result of the incident.

A Hana Bank official said, "We take this incident very seriously and will work closely with relevant agencies to thoroughly investigate the cause and implement measures to prevent recurrence."

Meanwhile, similar incidents have been occurring in the banking sector recently. Shinhan Bank reported that approximately 25,000 customers' information was leaked due to an external attack on September 29-30, and KB Kookmin Bank experienced unauthorized external access to its employee mobile support system, resulting in the exposure of personal and credit information of 119 customers.
