Coupang Reduces Salmon Distribution Steps Through Direct Trade, Offering 30 Tons at Discount

Coupang is offering a discount on over 30 tons of salmon sourced directly from global producers in Norway and Canada.
 
The company announced on October 5 that it will discount more than 50 types of salmon products, including fresh salmon, aged and smoked salmon, and fillet steaks, until October 11.
 
Featured products include 1 kg of MOWI Canadian fresh salmon for 38,990 won, 500 g of Norwegian fresh salmon for 20,990 won, and 300 g of deep-skin Norwegian salmon fillet for 15,900 won.
 
Salmon fillets for steaks, fresh salmon sashimi, and smoked salmon are also included in the discounts. Customers can receive an additional discount of up to 10% with card promotions during the event.
 
Coupang began direct trading with MOWI, a salmon producer, in April 2022. This approach eliminates intermediaries such as importers and wholesalers, allowing Coupang to directly import fresh salmon from Norway and Canada. The company stated that it consistently sells fresh salmon at around 3,990 won per 100 g.
 
Through this event, Coupang aims to increase the proportion of direct trade with producers in its seafood product line and enhance price competitiveness. The company is expanding its product range to include air-freighted fresh salmon, sashimi, steaks, and smoked products to attract a broader customer base.
 
A Coupang representative said, "We prepared this event to alleviate the burden on customers facing rising seafood prices. We will continue to offer fresh seafood at reasonable prices to stabilize dining costs."
 
Meanwhile, Coupang is hosting a 'Fall Kitchen Wow Living Show' until October 11, featuring popular kitchen items for customers looking to refresh their kitchens this autumn.
 
The event includes daily new product offerings, Gold Box specials, limited-time offers, a 1+1 deal on popular items, brand sales, instant card discounts, and half-price discounts, among other promotions.
