The Administrative City Construction Agency (Happiness Agency) has developed a disaster response system that automatically detects weather alerts and provides notifications using generative artificial intelligence (AI).

On October 6, the agency announced that its project management and disaster safety officials utilized generative AI to create this system.

The system was established in response to the challenges faced during the temporary unavailability of the comprehensive disaster situation room during the agency's relocation, as well as the recent series of weather alerts due to localized heavy rainfall, highlighting the need for effective disaster monitoring and response regardless of location.

Staff members coded the system using generative AI and integrated it with the Korea Meteorological Administration and overseas weather information application programming interfaces (APIs). The system automatically detects weather alerts such as heavy rain advisories and warnings, providing notifications and enabling emergency responses in a mobile environment.

The Happiness Agency expects that this system will allow emergency personnel to respond more quickly during localized heavy rain events and enhance safety management around major construction sites and facilities.

Jung Rae-hwa, head of the project management division at the Happiness Agency, stated, "This is a good example of how staff addressed issues in disaster safety operations using AI coding in the public sector. We plan to closely review improvements through pilot operations to ensure effective use in disaster response situations in the future."

He added, "We will actively support the dissemination of this self-built system to enhance administrative efficiency across the Happiness Agency."
